Many things come to mind when Fort Bragg is mentioned, from sunsets, to food to the famous Glass Beach. From trash to treasure, Fort Bragg's Glass Beach is a well known area for tourist. It's easy to wonder how so much beautifully worn-down sea glass arrived on this beach as you walk down one of the three shorelines. Roughly 50 years ago the area was finally closed as a dump site where locals had been throwing their trash, including appliances and vehicles over the cliff edge to the beach below. There, the continuous hammering of the ocean waves would smooth and mold the broken glass into wonderful pieces of art and color called sea glass. In the decades since the closure so many tourists have visited the sites and taken a piece of sea glass with them as a souvenir that in 2015 there was an ordinance set in place making the removal of sea glass unlawful. This will ensure that visitors to the three glass beaches will be able to admire the beauty, just like locals and visitors, for years and years to come.

The Noyo Harbor holds a high significance in Fort Bragg, Ca. The Noyo Harbor is the port and boat docking area of Fort Bragg. It is built near the mouth Noyo River in the town of Noyo, just south of Fort Bragg.
Fishermen began to discover the Noyo Harbor and squatted in the old mill buildings soon after the mill closed in the late 1800's. The Noyo Fishing Village began unofficially with these squatters and in time, became known for the high-quality fish being produced during the entire 20th century and into the 21st century.
The Noyo River supplies domestic water to the city and the Noyo River watershed has provided rich timber resources for mills since the 1850's. The Pomo Indians were the dominant tribe in the vicinity of the Noyo River basin prior to European colonization.

If the beach isn't your thing, maybe you'd love to take a ride on the Skunk Train, nicknamed such due to the original gas engines which people used to say, "You can smell 'em before you can see 'em." As the mills started to spring up in 1885 around the area, so did the need for the transportation of large logs to various sites. Having initially been established in 1904, the summer steam passenger service now called “The Super Skunk” was reestablished with Baldwin-built steam locomotives Nos. 45 and 46 forty years after the yellow "Skunk" rail cars were added to the mix in 1925. Renewed in September 2006 as a special event train, No.45 continues to run from Fort Bragg as far as Northspur on selected weekends, summer to early autumn.
